Trump made the comment while explaining why allies were not informed in advance about the military action. He suggested that surprise was necessary, referencing Japan’s 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor as an example. 

The Japanese leader, Sanae Takaichi, reportedly appeared surprised but remained composed during the exchange. She emphasized continued cooperation between both nations despite the sensitive nature of the remark.
