Hon. Lanre Omolase, a close ally of former Ayodele Fayose, has been elected as the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State. His emergence followed the party’s state congress held in Ado‑Ekiti on Saturday. The exercise was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies.
During the congress, several other party officials were also elected into the State Working Committee. Tunde Ogunleye, a former commissioner in the state, was chosen as the party’s secretary alongside other executives who will help run the affairs of the party in Ekiti.
Speaking at the event, Bisi Kolawole, a member of the PDP National Caretaker Committee and the party’s candidate in the 2022 governorship election, admitted that the party had faced internal disagreements in the past. However, he said consultations were ongoing among leaders to rebuild unity and strengthen the party.
In his remarks, Omolase promised to work with all stakeholders to reposition the PDP in Ekiti. He called on members to stay committed to the party and assured them that with unity and dedication, the party would regain its strength in the state.
