DSS arrests officers over El-Rufai airport security breach

Five security officials have been arrested over the February 12, 2026 breach at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, in an incident reportedly linked to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The arrests followed a joint probe by the DSS, Immigration, Customs and the Aviation Ministry.

Those detained include personnel from the Police, DSS, Immigration and Aviation Security units. Investigators said the suspects allegedly collected bribes to allow unauthorised access into restricted airport areas and interfered with standard security checks. Authorities described it as a serious insider threat to national infrastructure.

The suspects have been handed over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for prosecution. Officials say the move shows the government’s commitment to tackling corruption within critical institutions.

Meanwhile, some Immigration and Customs officers who misused their uniforms but were not found criminally liable will face internal disciplinary action. Authorities insist there is zero tolerance for any compromise of Nigeria’s aviation security system.
