The Kwara North Development Commission condemned the remand of Iliasu Ibrahim, Shola Muse, and Adesomowo Adegogo by the Kwara State High Court over an alleged defamation case. The Commission described the move as judicial overreach and executive interference in the judiciary.
President Abdullahi Mansuma and Publicity Secretary Hajia Zainabu Seko argued that the defendants’ constitutional right to fair hearing and presumption of innocence was violated. They said the remand appears aimed at silencing critical voices in the state.
The Commission criticized Justice E. B. Mohammed’s haste in issuing the remand and threatened to petition the National Judicial Council to investigate the judge’s conduct. They stressed that a judge acting on the governor’s directive undermines judicial integrity.
KNDC also called on citizens, civil society, and the legal community to note what it described as growing judicial dictatorship, urging the state to focus on rising insecurity instead of targeting critics. The case is adjourned to February 25, 2026.
