Seven individuals have been arraigned before a Kwara State High Court in Ilorin over their alleged involvement in the burning of a house belonging to a traditional worshipper, Toyin Asabi Olorisa. The suspects were brought before Justice Mahmud Gafar on Friday to face charges bordering on conspiracy and arson linked to the incident.
According to court proceedings, the fire incident reportedly occurred on January 1, 2026, while the homeowner was away on holiday. Investigations later led to the arrest of seven suspects by operatives of the Kwara State Police Command. The prosecution alleged that the accused persons jointly planned and carried out the act, which resulted in the complete destruction of the bungalow.
During the hearing, the charges were read to the defendants, all of whom pleaded not guilty. Counsel representing the complainant urged the court to remand the suspects in custody, while defence lawyers opposed the request, arguing that the defendants had already been granted bail by the police.
After listening to arguments from both sides, Justice Gafar granted bail to each of the suspects in the sum of ₦2.5 million with one surety each. The judge adjourned the case until March 26, 2026, for further hearing, while the suspects were allowed to remain free under the bail conditions.
