United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has appointed Nnorom Nnorom as Chairman of its Board of Directors, effective August 21, 2026, succeeding Tony Elumelu, who stepped down after completing the maximum tenure permitted for non-executive directors under Central Bank of Nigeria regulations.
Nnorom, a seasoned businessman and chartered accountant, brings more than four decades of professional experience to the role.
He spent over eight years in senior leadership positions at UBA, serving at various times as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UBA Africa, Group Chief Operating Officer and Group Chief Financial Officer.
Before his appointment as chairman, he also served as a Non-Executive Director on the bank’s board.
UBA said the appointment comes at a critical period as the financial services group continues to strengthen and expand its operations across Africa.
The bank expressed confidence that Nnorom’s extensive knowledge of its operations, business strategy and growth trajectory would position him to provide effective leadership as the group pursues its next phase of expansion.
Beyond UBA, Nnorom has held leadership positions in several major Nigerian companies. He served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Transnational Corporation Plc between 2014 and 2017 and has been Group Chief Executive Officer of Heirs Holdings since 2017.
Earlier in his career, he held senior management positions at Standard Trust Bank, Diamond Bank and other financial institutions.
Nnorom is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and an Honorary Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.
He also completed executive leadership and management programmes at Templeton College, Oxford.
