NJC recommends Hassan, Saidu, 12 others to Tinubu for appointment as judges

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended 14 legal practitioners to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointment as judges of the Federal High Court. The recommendation was reached during the Council’s 110th meeting held on January 13 and 14, 2026, under the leadership of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun.

Among those recommended are Hassan, Saidu, and 12 other qualified candidates who successfully emerged from the NJC’s selection process. The Council’s decision followed careful consideration of the applicants’ professional competence, experience, and integrity, in line with constitutional requirements for judicial appointments.

In a statement released on Thursday evening, the Deputy Director of Information of the NJC, Mrs Kemi Babalola-Ogedengbe, explained that security reports on the candidates were not available at the time of the meeting. She noted, however, that the recommendation was made subject to the completion and review of all required background checks.

The move is seen as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Federal High Court by addressing manpower needs and improving the delivery of justice. Once approved by President Tinubu, the appointments are expected to enhance the efficiency of the court and reduce delays in the handling of federal cases.
