Some United States lawmakers have announced plans to take action against former President Donald Trump following his comments and decisions related to Venezuela. The lawmakers said Trump’s recent statements and actions could affect US foreign policy and global stability, especially in sensitive regions like Latin America.
Speaking to reporters, the lawmakers said their “next step is clear,” meaning they intend to use legal and political tools available to Congress to challenge or limit Trump’s influence on matters concerning Venezuela. They stressed that no individual, including a former president, should be allowed to shape foreign policy in a way that could lead to conflict or instability without proper oversight.
The lawmakers also expressed concern that Trump’s approach toward Venezuela could worsen tensions, harm diplomatic efforts, and increase the suffering of ordinary Venezuelans who are already facing economic and social hardship. They said Congress must act responsibly to protect democratic values and international peace.
They added that their action is not driven by politics alone but by the need to uphold the rule of law, protect democratic institutions, and ensure that US foreign policy is guided by careful decision-making rather than personal interests or aggressive rhetoric.
