President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described the Hausa people as vital pillars of Nigeria’s unity, cultural heritage and national progress as the country marks World Hausa Day.

Tinubu made the remarks in a message shared on his social media account on Wednesday, August 26, as celebrations were held at the historic Daura Palace.

The President praised the Hausa language for its global reach, noting its growing importance as a means of communication, trade and cultural exchange across different parts of the world.

World Hausa Day, also known as Ranar Hausa, is observed annually on August 26. The initiative began as a social media campaign by Nigerian journalist Abdulbaki Aliyu Jari to promote the Hausa language online and raise awareness of its cultural significance.

The grassroots campaign has since expanded into international celebrations across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas, although the day has not received formal recognition from the United Nations.

Hausa remains one of Nigeria’s major languages and is among Africa’s most widely spoken languages, with millions of speakers worldwide.
