Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has publicly stated that Bayo Adelabu does not have the capacity to effectively serve as Nigeria’s Minister of Power. He revealed this during a media briefing in Ibadan, criticizing the minister’s ability to handle the responsibilities of the office.
Makinde explained that he had warned President Tinubu against appointing Adelabu to the power ministry. However, the president proceeded with the appointment despite the governor’s concerns. According to him, the minister seems more focused on political objectives than addressing the nation’s electricity challenges.
The governor added that when the matter was discussed, President Tinubu suggested that Makinde could help organize APC in Oyo State. Makinde refused, emphasizing that he belongs to the PDP and cannot support the APC’s political activities.
This disagreement has been linked to Makinde’s well-documented fall out with President Tinubu, especially regarding the handling of ministerial selections and political alignments in Oyo State. The governor’s comments highlight growing tensions between the state leadership and the federal government.
