A northern coalition has strongly criticised former U.S. President Donald Trump over his recent remarks suggesting that Christians in Nigeria are facing genocide. According to the group, Trump’s comments are misleading and paint a false picture of the situation in the country.
The coalition explained that Nigeria has security challenges affecting people of all regions and religions, not only Christians. They stressed that violence in Nigeria is driven by criminal elements, terrorism, and banditry, not a religious war. The group accused Trump of spreading fear and pushing misinformation for political reasons.
Leaders of the coalition also cautioned Nigerians against embracing foreign narratives that can create division and tension. They urged citizens to remain united and work together to address insecurity instead of allowing external voices to dictate the country’s reality.
The group encouraged the Nigerian government to continue improving security in all parts of the country and called on citizens to resist being influenced by statements that could widen religious and ethnic mistrust.
