The Kebbi State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has distanced itself from the ongoing #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest, reportedly organized by activist Omoyele Sowore to demand the release of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
In a statement released on Monday, the Kebbi NYCN Chairman, Engr. Ahmed Rufai Khalifa, said that youths in the state would not participate in the protest, stressing that the matter is still before the court and should be allowed to follow due legal process.
“Our state, Kebbi, is peaceful, and we intend to maintain the existing peace. We are not part of any protest that could lead to unrest,” Khalifa stated.
He cautioned the youths to reject attempts by what he described as “agents of destabilisation” seeking to drag them into unnecessary demonstrations. According to him, no meaningful progress can be achieved in an atmosphere of tension or conflict.
Khalifa encouraged young people in Kebbi to focus on productive ventures and support ongoing government initiatives aimed at improving youth welfare and economic empowerment in the state.
He also confirmed that all youth organizations affiliated with the NYCN in Kebbi have collectively agreed not to take part in the protest. The chairman concluded by urging the public to allow the judiciary to handle Nnamdi Kanu’s case without external interference, emphasizing that the rule of law must be respected at all times.
