The wife of Anambra State Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has openly challenged Senator Uche Ekwunife to take an oath of fidelity and chastity. This comes after Ekwunife, who is the deputy governorship candidate of the APC, claimed that Mrs Soludo was close to and once worked with former governor, Dr Chinwoke Mbadinuju.
In a statement released on Friday, Mrs Soludo dismissed the senator’s claims, saying they were false and unfair. She also accused her of dragging her children into unnecessary political battles.
Mrs Soludo said she was ready to take a public oath before the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Bible to prove her faithfulness to her husband, Governor Chukwuma Soludo. She also challenged Ekwunife to do the same, insisting that such an oath would finally put questions of character to rest.
She stated, “I will swear, with my children, that in all my 55 years, I have only known one man—my husband, Chukwuma Soludo. On your part, you should also swear with your family or your political career that you have never cheated on your husband.”
Going further, Mrs Soludo challenged Senator Ekwunife to allow their children to undergo paternity tests at three respected hospitals in London. She offered to cover all expenses, including travel for Ekwunife and her family.
She also promised that if the results confirmed that Ekwunife’s husband fathered all her children, she would not only congratulate her but also give her a cash prize.
Mrs Soludo described herself as a peaceful family woman with strong Christian values. She said she married Governor Soludo as a virgin and has remained faithful throughout their 33 years of marriage.
She added that she has never worked for the government or relied on public funds, even as the First Lady of Anambra State.
Mrs Soludo maintained that she would defend her integrity with decency and dignity. She compared the confrontation with Ekwunife to a marathon race, saying her weapons are character, grace, and patience.
This dispute between the two women began after Governor Chukwuma Soludo questioned Senator Ekwunife’s academic qualifications. The senator responded with harsh criticisms, which led to the governor’s wife stepping into the matter.
