A young hairdresser in Lagos, known as Fatima, is currently recovering after allegedly being beaten by her boyfriend, which led to the loss of six of her teeth.

Fatima and her boyfriend, who both live on Ibadan Street in Ebute Metta, reportedly had a serious argument that turned into a violent fight.

One of her family members, who didn’t want their name mentioned, shared with Punch that the 27-year-old woman was badly beaten by her boyfriend on Saturday, July 12.

The family member said they first heard about the situation when a neighbor called to say Fatima was in the hospital. At the time, they didn’t know what had happened. But after someone was sent to visit her, they found out she had been attacked by her partner and had lost multiple teeth. A photo later confirmed how serious her injuries were.

A cousin of Fatima reported the assault to Denton Police Station, and her boyfriend was arrested. But the family later found out he had already been released.

Another resident named Adetunji revealed that Fatima had been suffering physical abuse from her boyfriend for a long time.

He also mentioned that even though her family had the man arrested this time, Fatima begged the police to release him, despite how badly she had been hurt.

“This isn’t the first time. We’ve tried to step in before, but she always returns to him. It got worse this time because she lost her teeth, and that’s when her family got involved,” Adetunji explained.

Another source who is familiar with the case said that Fatima is still getting medical care.

She currently has a temporary dental device in her mouth to support her until she undergoes surgery scheduled for August 15.
