Fulham has refused an offer from Spanish club Atletico Madrid to sign Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi. According to DAILY POST, the London-based Premier League club is not ready to let him go.
Reports from Africa Foot reveal that Atletico Madrid made a $21.5 million bid for Iwobi earlier this week.
The La Liga side, coached by Diego Simeone, also offered Iwobi a four-year contract worth €7 million per year in salary.
Even though the 29-year-old player was said to be interested in a move to Spain, Fulham has no intention of selling one of their top performers.
Atletico Madrid had identified Iwobi as a possible replacement for Belgian international Yannick Carrasco.
Iwobi had a strong season with Fulham, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in 38 games across all competitions.
He also made history by becoming the first Nigerian footballer to play all 38 Premier League matches in two different seasons.
His outstanding performance earned him second place in Fulham’s Player of the Season award, just behind his Super Eagles teammate, Calvin Bassey.
