Transfer: Arsenal terminate Tomiyasu’s contract

Arsenal has reportedly chosen to end Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu’s contract before its original end date.

The 25-year-old has not featured for the Gunners since October 2024 and has been recovering from a serious knee injury.

Tomiyasu underwent knee surgery in February and is expected to remain sidelined until the end of 2025. This long-term injury has affected his chances of returning to the first team.

Although his contract was supposed to run until the summer of 2026, discussions had been ongoing between the player and the club to terminate it early.

According to The Daily Mail, both parties have reached a mutual agreement to go their separate ways, and an official announcement is expected soon.

Tomiyasu joined Arsenal from Italian club Bologna in August 2021 for just under £20 million. He made a strong start but soon began struggling with injuries.

Throughout his time at the club, injuries limited his playing time. Last season, he only appeared once, coming on as a substitute for six minutes in a game against Southampton.

It seems both the club and the player have decided it’s best to move on, especially with his recovery timeline stretching well into next year.
