INEC Begins Observer Accreditation Process for 2024 Edo and Ondo Governorship Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has started the process of accrediting organizations to serve as observers for the upcoming 2024 governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States. Accredited organizations are required to upload the personal details and photographs of their field observers onto INEC’s online portal to complete the accreditation process.

This information was disclosed in a post by Sam Olumekun, the Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, which was shared on INEC’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday.

INEC reported that it received a total of 153 applications from organizations interested in observing the elections. After reviewing these applications, 134 groups were selected for accreditation. These include 124 domestic organizations and 10 international organizations that met the necessary accreditation requirements.

The commission also announced that it will conduct a one-day training session for representatives of the accredited observer groups.

This training is scheduled to take place on Wednesday at the Commission’s Conference Room in Abuja, aiming to prepare the observers for their roles during the elections.
