Beyoncé and several global entertainment icons have paid tribute to country music legend Dolly Parton, who died on Tuesday at the age of 80.

In a tribute published on her official website, Beyoncé described Parton as a “north star” who taught generations the importance of embracing their uniqueness. She thanked the country music icon for her art, generosity, entrepreneurial spirit and the opportunity to work together.

The two stars collaborated on Beyoncé’s 2024 album Cowboy Carter, with Parton appearing on an interlude and the track “Tyrant.” Beyoncé also recorded a reimagined version of Parton’s classic hit “Jolene,” which Parton publicly praised.

Pop superstar Taylor Swift said a world without Parton “doesn’t feel possible or right,” describing her as a rare combination of grace and determination. Swift praised Parton’s compassion for others and her strength in standing up for herself as an artist.

British music legend Sir Elton John described Parton as a “giant of an artist,” calling her unique and irreplaceable and praising her kindness. He said he was shocked and devastated by her death.

Sir Paul McCartney, who collaborated with Parton on a cover of “Let It Be,” also honoured her legacy, praising her songwriting, singing and philanthropy as unrivalled in country music.

Media mogul Oprah Winfrey said Parton brought light to the world and that people were better because she had been part of it.

An online news platform also reported that US President Donald Trump ordered American flags to be flown at half-staff for one week in honour of the late singer.
