Six Chinese men have been sentenced to one year in prison in Lagos for their roles in cyber-terrorism and online fraud. The judgment was given by Justices D. I. Dipeolu and A. O. Faji at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi.
The six men are JIA You (also called A. You), Wang Zheng Feng (also called Feng), Liu San Hua, Chen Wen Yuan, LIU BEIXING, and WEN ZONG XU (also known as LI LONG).
According to a report by the EFCC, these men were part of a larger group involved in online scams related to fake cryptocurrency investments and romance fraud. A total of 792 suspects were arrested during a major sting operation called “Eagle Flush Operation” that took place in Lagos on December 19, 2024.
The EFCC’s Lagos office charged the suspects in February 2025 for cyber-terrorism and internet fraud. Each of them faced separate charges in court.
Among the charges, one reads:
‘’That you LUO JIA YOU (a.k.a A. YOU) sometimes in December 2024 at Lagos, Nigeria within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, willfully caused to be accessed, computer systems used for the purpose of destabilizing and destroying the economy and social structure of Nigeria and you hereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 18 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 (as Amended, 2024) and Section 2(3) of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition Act, 2022″.
At first, all six pleaded “not guilty” when the charges were read. But during the court session on June 23, 2025, they changed their plea to “guilty.”
EFCC lawyers—Babatunde Sonoiki, U. S. Kyari, and B. M. Isah—asked the court to sentence them based on their new guilty pleas.
The court agreed and sentenced each of them to one year in prison starting from their arrest date, which was December 10, 2025. They were also each fined one million naira.
The judge also gave an order to the Comptroller General of Immigration to ensure that these six men are deported to their home country within seven days after they finish their prison terms.
All items taken from them during their arrest, including mobile phones, computers, laptops, and internet routers, were ordered to be handed over to the Nigerian government.
