The political tension between former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi and current FCT Minister Nyesom Wike continues to grow. Amaechi recently replied to Wike’s claim that he was never his boss.
During a recent media chat in Abuja, Wike said that Amaechi, who once served as Minister of Transportation, doesn’t have much political influence anymore.
Wike also pointed out that even though Amaechi led the APC presidential campaign, he couldn’t win Rivers State for President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2015 and 2019 elections.
Later, Wike’s aide, Lere Olayinka, took aim at former presidential spokesperson Reuben Abati. This came after Abati called Wike rude and insisted that Amaechi was once his political superior.
Abati had made that statement in reaction to Wike’s harsh comments about Amaechi. Wike had said Amaechi was power-hungry and couldn’t even deliver 10% of votes for Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 elections.
Olayinka, speaking for Wike, questioned how anyone could still see Amaechi as Wike’s boss.
On Facebook, Olayinka reminded the public that Wike stayed in Rivers State in 2007 to help Amaechi regain his mandate, while Amaechi had traveled to Ghana during that period.
In an interview with Arise News, Amaechi was asked if he and Wike are still friends. He avoided personal topics and didn’t give a direct answer.
But when asked if he still sees or spends time with Wike, Amaechi clearly said, “I was once his boss, whether he likes it or not. I hired him. I could have said no.”
