Tragic Discovery: Missing UNN First-Year Student Found Dead on Campus

In a tragic turn of events, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), mourns the loss of Favour Okenyi, a first-year student in the Department of Medical Laboratory Science. Favour went missing after attending a chemistry practical on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. Her lifeless body was discovered three days later, on Friday evening, July 5, inside a drainage near the Eni-Njoku male hostel, close to Akanu Ibiam Stadium.

The news of Favour’s death shocked the university community, with students reportedly finding her body. UNN’s spokesperson, Okwun Omeaku, confirmed the tragic incident, stating that the university is working closely with security agencies and the family to understand the circumstances surrounding her death. This collaboration aims to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

“The university administration expresses deep sadness over the loss of our student and extends heartfelt condolences to the family,” said Omeaku in a statement on Sunday, July 7. He urged anyone with information related to the investigation to contact the university administration, emphasizing the importance of uncovering the truth.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the challenges universities face in ensuring student safety and underscores the need for vigilance and collaborative efforts in campus security.
