The Kano State Joint Task Force on Security Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation has stepped up its actions against crime. From May 10 to May 14, they arrested 31 people during planned operations in different areas of the state.
The raids happened in places known for crime, including Dorayi, Ja’in, Sharada, Unguwar Dabai, Dukawa, Kabuga, Kofar Mata, and nearby communities.
Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, the head of the task force, said their goal is to make Kano a peaceful and drug-free place. He also said they want to help young people leave a life of crime.
The arrests were based on information gathered by the task force. Out of the 31 suspects, 25 were accused of being thugs, and six were suspected of selling drugs.
During the operation, officers found four Dane guns, nine knives and cutlasses, three clubs, suspected cannabis, 173 exol tablets, and other illegal drugs.
Some of those caught were known criminals in the Dorayi area. Their names include Dan Abba, Bola, Baka Kashi, Ramos, Abba Maciji, and Abdul Baki. These people were said to be involved in many violent acts in the past.
Dr. Kofar Mata said this operation has hit the center of criminal activity in Dorayi and nearby places. He believes arresting these people is a big step forward in making the area safer.
The 25 people arrested for thuggery have been taken to Magistrate Court Number 16 on Zungeru Road. The six drug suspects, including a well-known drug dealer named Rabi’u Hamza, were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Dr. Kofar Mata is confident that this action will help stop the violence that has affected these areas for more than 20 years.
He confirmed that the task force will keep working hard to make Kano a safer and more peaceful state. The task force includes security officers and government officials working together.
More operations are planned in other areas of the state. The committee said this is part of a bigger plan to guide young people away from crime and help them build better futures.
