Nothing wrong with one-party state – Ganduje

Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), believes there’s nothing wrong with Nigeria having a one-party system.

Ganduje made this statement on Friday after he led three senators from Kebbi State to meet with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The three senators—Adamu Aliero, Yahaya Abdullahi, and Garba Maidoki—are members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but they have announced plans to join the APC.

When asked if the continuous movement of politicians from opposition parties to APC might lead Nigeria into becoming a one-party state, Ganduje said there was no need to worry. He used China as an example of a country that operates well under a one-party system.

He explained that the delegation came to get the President’s blessing for the senators’ decision, and President Tinubu gave his full support. Ganduje added that something significant would happen in the Senate on Tuesday as a result.

According to him, a one-party state doesn’t have to be forced on people. If other parties see the APC doing well and decide to join, it means they agree with the party’s direction.

He also said that there’s no harm in people willingly joining APC. Using a popular saying, he mentioned that “too many cooks spoil the soup,” suggesting that too many political parties can make it hard to govern properly.

Ganduje ended by saying China is one of the strongest countries in the world, and it operates successfully under a one-party system. He believes this kind of system could also benefit Nigeria.
