Fubara’s chief of staff files N2bn suit against Ex-HoS Nweke, Channels TV

Edison Ehie, the Chief of Staff to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has taken legal action against the former Head of Service, George Nweke, and Channels Television. He is asking the court for N2 billion as compensation for defamation.

This move comes after George Nweke appeared on Channels Television on March 29 and made statements that Ehie says were false and harmful to his reputation.

Ehie’s lawyer, Tuduru Edeh (a Senior Advocate of Nigeria), told the court that the comments made during the interview were malicious and damaging. He asked the court to stop Nweke and Channels TV from repeating the statements in any form—directly or through others.

The lawyer also asked the court to order Nweke and Channels TV to take back the statements and issue a public apology to Ehie. He said the apology should be shown on Channels TV, another national TV station, and printed in two major newspapers in Nigeria.

The judge, Justice Stephen Jumbo, agreed with these requests and told everyone involved in the case not to speak publicly about the matter until the case is resolved.

The next court date is set for June 4, 2025.
