Daniel Bwala, a media and policy adviser to President Bola Tinubu, has dismissed reports that Christians face persecution in Nigeria under the current administration.
His statement follows the approval of sanctions on Nigeria by the US House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee. The committee accused the Nigerian government of failing to protect Christian communities from rising violence.
During a recent congressional hearing, US lawmakers condemned the situation and supported tough measures against Nigeria. The committee also authorized former US President Donald Trump to impose strict sanctions due to concerns over religious violence.
However, Bwala responded by saying the report lacks proper context and is outdated. Posting on X (formerly Twitter), he stated that Tinubu’s government strongly supports religious tolerance. He also pointed out that since Tinubu took office on May 29, 2023, there have been very few, if any, cases of Christian persecution in Nigeria.
He reassured that Tinubu remains dedicated to promoting peace and harmony among different religious groups in the country.
