Mudashiru Obasa, the former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has announced his return to office. On February 27, he stated that he is back as Speaker after being impeached on January 13.
“I’ve resumed and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” Obasa said after storming the Assembly complex on Thursday morning with Police and State Security Service operatives as escorts.
Obasa was removed from office last month when most lawmakers in the Assembly voted against him. Following his impeachment, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda was chosen as the new Speaker, making history as the first female Speaker of the Lagos Assembly.
This marks the first time Obasa has returned to the Assembly since his impeachment. However, he has now reassumed the leadership role.
