APC crisis: I don’t know if El-Rufai is NEC member – Party spokesman, Morka

The spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has said he is not sure if former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is a member of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

APC leaders gathered at the party’s secretariat in Abuja for the NEC meeting, attended by key figures like President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas. The meeting followed a national caucus meeting at the Presidential Villa.

El-Rufai and former Rivers State governor, Chibuike Amaechi, were notably absent. Their absence has sparked speculation, especially given El-Rufai’s recent criticism of the party’s leadership. He accused President Tinubu and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu of blocking his ministerial appointment. El-Rufai also claimed that Ribadu was working towards his own presidential ambition for 2031.

During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Morka suggested that El-Rufai may not be part of the NEC. He explained that all members received invitations, and those interested made the effort to attend. However, he was unsure if El-Rufai was officially listed as a NEC member.

El-Rufai has been vocal about APC’s internal issues, including concerns over internal democracy. His absence from the NEC meeting adds to growing tensions within the ruling party.
