War: Ukraine must be at the heart of any peace talks – British PM

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has made it clear that Ukraine must be included in any discussions to end the war with Russia.

His statement comes as concerns grow in Kyiv and among European allies that the United States might negotiate a peace deal without Ukraine’s input.

On Wednesday, former U.S. President Donald Trump spoke separately with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

According to Trump, both leaders expressed a willingness to end the war.

Starmer, however, stressed that Ukraine must play a key role in any peace process. “We must make sure that Ukraine is at the heart of this. There can’t be any negotiations without Ukraine being at the heart of it,” he said.

The British Prime Minister faces a challenging diplomatic situation. He is trying to maintain good relations with both the U.S. and the European Union while also avoiding potential trade tariffs from Trump.

Despite these challenges, Starmer emphasized that Ukraine needs to be in a strong position—whether in peace talks or on the battlefield.

“It’s really important that Ukraine is in the strongest possible position, whether that’s in discussions or whether it’s continued fighting,” he added.

As the situation develops, world leaders continue to debate the best path toward ending the war, but for the UK, Ukraine’s involvement in peace talks remains non-negotiable.
