Akinwumi Adesina, the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), has suggested he may run for Nigeria’s presidency in 2027.
With his second and final term as AfDB president coming to an end, political discussions are heating up about his next move.
In a recent interview on Arise TV, Adesina was asked if he would consider running for president. He responded with a reflective answer, saying he believes in God’s plan and is always willing to serve in any role that can help people.
He emphasized that making a difference in people’s lives is what brings him the most happiness.
Adesina also referenced Nigerian musician Davido’s song Unavailable, playfully suggesting that if it were about public service, the lyrics should change to I am available. He confirmed that he is open to serving in any capacity, including in Nigeria.
Speculation about his political ambitions has grown due to his connections with the League of Northern Democrats (LND), a group of northern Nigerian politicians. Although he is not a member, LND leaders, including Dr. Umar Ardo, see him as a strong candidate who could positively impact Nigeria’s political landscape.
With 2027 approaching, Adesina’s potential candidacy is gaining attention, and many Nigerians are eager to see if he will officially join the race for the presidency.
