Chioma Awuzie has been appointed as the new Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, by President Bola Tinubu. The appointment was made official on February 5, 2025, and will last for five years.
This decision follows the recommendation of the Polytechnic’s Governing Council, led by Senator Dr. Barnabas Gemade.
Awuzie is well-known for her work in the fields of science and technology. She holds a Doctorate Degree in Physical and Materials Chemistry and is a Chief Lecturer at the institution.
Before becoming Rector, she worked as the Director in charge of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Projects at Federal Polytechnic, Oko.
Throughout her career, Awuzie has held several important roles. She was the Head of the Department of Renewable Energy Research and Development, and she also directed the Petroleum, Coal, and Renewable Energy Research Unit.
Additionally, she worked as the Director of International Higher Education Academic Organizations and as the Coordinator for Technical, Vocational Education, and Training (TVET).
Awuzie has made a significant impact in education. She played a key role in creating Nigeria’s Renewable Energy Technology curriculum for Polytechnics, which is now being used across the country to improve technical skills and encourage sustainable energy solutions.
