A tragic incident has occurred at Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, where Favour Ugwuka, a final-year student, reportedly committed suicide. According to earlier reports, Favour was discovered dead behind her hostel at the Ishieke Campus on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, after allegedly ingesting a poisonous substance suspected to be sniper.

Punch reported that Favour, a student from the Department of English, had successfully passed all her courses except one, which she repeatedly failed. Allegedly, the lecturer of this particular course had vowed that she would never pass it.
A video circulating online, shows Favour’s mother in distress, blaming the lecturer for her daughter’s tragic decision to end her life.

A graduate of the institution who identified himself as Rex Nwome claimed that the girl committed suicide because she had been failing the particular course repeatedly.
“Favour was a fellow student and my closest friend in the English department. The lecturer made a promise that he would never let Favor graduate.”
