Steady Power Supply in Nigeria Won’t Come Quickly, President Tinubu Says

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked Nigerians to be patient as the government works on resolving the country’s electricity problems. During the visit of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Tinubu explained that fixing the electricity sector won’t be a quick process because the power infrastructure is old and needs serious upgrades.

The President highlighted that Nigeria’s transmission lines are 50 to 60 years old. These outdated systems cause many of the challenges the country faces today. Tinubu reassured Nigerians that efforts are underway to improve the situation.

He pointed to recent reforms that decentralize power generation and distribution. Now, states and regions can generate and manage their own electricity. This change aims to speed up progress and reduce dependence on the national grid.

Tinubu also mentioned the importance of using Nigeria’s natural resources to boost electricity supply. He discussed plans to harness solar energy and make better use of inactive dams for rural electrification. “We have the sun, and our German partners have the technology. We can work together to provide power to rural areas,” Tinubu said.

Beyond electricity, Tinubu emphasized the importance of Nigeria’s youth in driving the country forward. He described them as energetic and eager to learn, making them an asset for industrial growth.

He encouraged German businesses to invest in Nigeria’s renewable energy sector, solid minerals, and manufacturing. “We have solid minerals and an industrial plan ready to create assembly plants. These opportunities can help us grow together,” Tinubu added.

President Tinubu made it clear that while progress is being made, the road to steady electricity will take time. He assured Nigerians that the government is committed to solving the country’s power challenges and creating a better future for everyone.
