The North-West Progressives Ambassadors (NWPA) have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to reconsider his recent decision to cancel Yazid Danfulani’s appointment as Executive Secretary of the Solid Minerals Development Fund. In a statement signed by the group’s President, Comrade Aminu Galadanci, and Secretary General, Hajia Aishat Mohammed, the NWPA emphasized that Danfulani’s appointment was part of the President’s strategy to reward loyal party members who contributed to the success of the last election.
The NWPA explained that Danfulani’s experience and dedication to the cause could significantly benefit both the Northwest region and Nigeria as a whole. The group stated that allowing him to resume his position would give him the chance to contribute to the region’s development. They also mentioned that the youth in the Northwest are particularly eager to see him take on this role.
Danfulani’s appointment was initially announced on December 6, but just hours later, it was reportedly canceled due to the claim that there was no vacancy in the agency. This decision led to Fatima Shinkafi remaining in her position as Executive Secretary. However, the NWPA argued that Shinkafi, who has held the position for over eight years, has not made a significant impact on the development of the Northwest, and has not fully embraced the policies of the current administration.
The Arewa Youth Development Ambassadors (AYDA), led by Abubakar Abubakar, also expressed strong opposition to the cancellation of Danfulani’s appointment. They described the move as undermining the efforts of those who worked hard to secure President Tinubu’s victory in the election. Abubakar emphasized that Danfulani was a dedicated supporter of the President, who made significant contributions to his campaign in the Northwest and beyond.
The NWPA’s appeal and the criticism from the AYDA highlight the ongoing debate around the appointments and their potential impact on the development of the Northwest region. Supporters of Danfulani believe that he is a capable leader who can help fulfill the goals of the current administration, while opponents argue that the current leadership should be given a chance to continue their work.
As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether President Tinubu will revisit his decision and allow Danfulani to take up the role as Executive Secretary of the Solid Minerals Development Fund.
