Sanusi Lamido Sanusi Brought back as Kano’s Emir

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II has been reinstated as the Emir of Kano, according to reliable sources.

This decision came after the Kano State House of Assembly voted to remove the current Emir and dissolve the four new Emirates created in 2019. It’s not official yet, but it’s expected that Sanusi II will return to Kano on Friday.

The restructuring of the Kano Emirate in 2019 was seen as a move to reduce the influence of Sanusi II, who was critical of the former Governor’s administration. The creation of new Emirates weakened the old Kano Emirate Council’s power.

The Majority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly, Lawan Hussaini Chediyar Yan Gurasa, who sponsored the Amendment Bill, confirmed that the bill has been sent to the governor for approval. With the passage of the bill, there is currently no active Emir in Kano, and the governor will now have the authority to appoint a new one with the help of traditional kingmakers. All district heads appointed under the repealed law will also return to their previous positions.
