Four Nigerians Arrested in Libya for Drug Trafficking and Infectious Disease Violations

Libyan authorities recently arrested four Nigerian nationals in connection with drug trafficking and health violations. These arrests, reported by Migrant Rescue Watch on November 25, 2024, occurred in two separate incidents in Sabha and Bani Walid.

In Sabha, the Criminal Investigation Department raided the residence of two Nigerian suspects. During the operation, officers seized 1,200 hallucinogenic pills and other illegal substances. The two suspects were handed over to the Sabha Security Directorate for further investigation into their activities.

“CID in Sabha carried out a raid on a reported location and arrested two Nigerian drug traffickers. During a search of the premises, police found 1,200 hallucinogenic pills and other illicit drugs. Both individuals were transferred to the Sabha Security Directorate,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, a Nigerian man and woman were detained in Bani Walid during a routine health screening. Both tested positive for infectious diseases. The Directorate for Combating Illegal Migration transferred them to Tripoli for further processing and plans to repatriate them to Nigeria.

“DCIM Bureau in Bani Walid transferred two Nigerian #migrants (female and male) who tested positive for infectious diseases to Tripoli for repatriation,” the statement added.

These arrests underscore Libya’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and ensure public health standards among migrants in the country.
