Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has made it clear that the demolition of shanties in Abuja will not stop. He emphasized that no amount of protest will prevent the government from moving forward with its plans.
Wike shared this message during his visit to the Ruga community, located along the Wuye area of the capital. He stated that while the government is committed to addressing the issue, it will also work with those living in these shanties to come up with sustainable solutions for illegal settlements. The aim is to ensure that these makeshift communities do not reappear in the future.
Wike also responded to a recent protest on November 8, where demonstrators accused the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) of being “land grabbers.” He dismissed these claims, calling the protest a “misplaced priority” and reaffirmed that the demolitions would continue.
“We are determined to maintain the city’s master plan,” he asserted, adding that public opposition will not sway the administration’s decision to proceed with demolitions aimed at restoring order and ensuring safety within the capital.
