A Nigerian marriage therapist, Safiyyah Kassim, recently shared her views on the issue of parentage in Islam. She explained that, in Islamic law, a child is considered to belong to the husband of the woman, even if another person is responsible for the pregnancy. According to Kassim, Islam does not encourage the use of DNA tests to determine the biological father of a child. This view reflects the importance placed on marriage and the family structure in Islamic teachings.
“In Islam, a child belongs to the legitimate husband of a woman even if someone else is responsible for the pregnancy! DNA is not encouraged in Islam,” she wrote on Facebook.
