Nigerian actress and filmmaker Eniola Ajao recently opened up about a personal struggle caused by false news that was spread about her online. Speaking on the radio show Nollywood on Radio, Eniola shared how an upsetting rumor deeply impacted her mental health, nearly driving her to harm herself.

“I almost poisoned myself because there was news about me online that was far from true,” Ajao said. “It was the first time in my life that I faced something so painful. I didn’t eat for seven straight days. People around me can testify – I didn’t go anywhere.”

During the interview, Eniola explained that she was going through a challenging time in her career, busy planning her next movie project. However, the false rumor started to weigh heavily on her, making it hard for her to focus on her work. She was overwhelmed and, in a moment of despair, almost poisoned herself, showing just how painful and harmful online falsehoods can be.

“My sisters were calling, telling me, ‘You have to do this for yourself. You don’t have to poison yourself.’ My son was reaching out to everyone, saying I was struggling with this lie online,” she shared.

The actress added, “I don’t even want to remember those things, honestly”, she recounted on the show.

Eniola’s story serves as a reminder of the real impact that false news and hurtful online rumors can have on people’s lives. She encouraged people to be mindful of what they say or post about others, as the effects can be much more serious than they appear.
