TotalEnergies and its Nigerian partner, AMNI, have taken a Final Investment Decision (FID) to develop the offshore Ima gas field in Nigeria, with production expected to support the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Train 7 expansion project.

TotalEnergies announced the decision on Wednesday, marking another major step in the company’s integrated gas development strategy in Nigeria.

Located on Oil Mining Leases (OML) 112 and 117 near Bonny Island, the Ima field is expected to commence production in 2028 and reach a plateau output of about 350 million cubic feet of gas per day, equivalent to more than 60,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

Under the development plan, gas from the field will be transported through a pipeline to the NLNG facility, where it is expected to provide approximately one-third of the gas required for the Train 7 expansion.

The Train 7 project is designed to increase Nigeria LNG’s liquefaction capacity from its current 22 million metric tonnes per year to about 30 million tonnes annually.

TotalEnergies said the Ima development would add low-cost gas resources to its Nigerian portfolio and further strengthen its integrated gas strategy in the country.
