The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said the administration of President Bola Tinubu has fundamentally transformed infrastructure development in the nation’s capital.
Wike made the assertion on Wednesday in Abuja while speaking with journalists after inspecting several ongoing road and infrastructure projects across the FCT.
The projects inspected included the construction of Arterial Road SI, linking Ring Road II to Arterial Road S20 (Oladipo Diya Way) in Kaura District, as well as Collector Road C2 in Life Camp, connecting to Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way).
The minister also inspected the ongoing construction of Arterial Road N16, linking Ring Road II to Ring Road III, and Jereton Mariere Street around the Apo Legislative Quarters in Gudu District.
Wike further inspected the ongoing remodeling and renovation of the IBB Golf Course.
“We are happy because we can see that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has redefined infrastructure as far as the FCT is concerned,” the minister said.
Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the projects, saying the administration remained committed to completing key infrastructure projects ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He expressed particular confidence in the completion of Arterial Road N16 despite the difficult terrain and extensive bridge construction along the corridor.
According to him, the contractor had assured the FCT Administration that the project would be delivered by the first week of January.
“If that N16 job is completed, obviously, the entire area will be a different thing altogether. That is a very huge infrastructure landmark,” Wike said.
On the IBB Golf Course, the minister reiterated that the facility would be fully operational by November and ready to host major tournaments.
Wike also disclosed that implementation of the FCT’s 2026 capital budget had reached 60 per cent.
He explained that while initial delays in the release of funds affected payments to contractors, the situation had stabilised, allowing contractors to operate at full capacity.
The minister also dismissed political rhetoric ahead of the 2027 election cycle, urging political aspirants to focus on presenting their records and achievements to voters rather than engaging in distractions.
