Cross River Police Release Photo of Unidentified Woman Found Dead in Calabar Hotel

The Cross River State Police Command has released the photograph of an unidentified woman found dead in a hotel in Calabar South, as part of efforts to establish her identity and locate her family.

The woman was discovered dead at a hotel along Clifford Lane, Calabar South, in an incident being investigated as a suspected homicide.

The command, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said the development was an update to its earlier report of September 8, 2026, on the incident.

According to the police, preliminary investigations indicated that the deceased had lodged at the hotel with a male guest whose whereabouts are currently unknown.

The command said investigators are working to locate the man and determine the circumstances that led to the woman’s death.

“As part of ongoing efforts to establish the identity of the deceased, the Command is releasing her photograph and appeals to anyone who recognises her or may have information concerning her identity, family or associates to contact the Police with credible information,” the statement said.

The police also disclosed that the receptionist on duty when the incident occurred remains in custody and is assisting with the investigation.

The receptionist is being questioned over the admission of the two guests and events leading up to the discovery of the deceased.

However, the command stressed that his detention should not be interpreted as a determination of guilt.

“His custody should not be construed as a determination of guilt, as any further action will be based on available evidence and in accordance with the law,” the police said.

The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has directed that the investigation be conducted professionally, objectively and in accordance with the law.

The police said the investigation is focused on identifying the deceased, determining the circumstances surrounding her death, locating the male guest and establishing whether any other individuals may have been connected to the incident.

The command urged anyone who recognises the woman from the released photograph or has information that could assist in locating the male guest to contact the police.

Members of the public can provide information through the Police Control Room on 0706 797 7330 or 0905 827 3057, or visit the nearest police station.

The command assured the public that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
