The Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed that goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo is set to debut for the Super Eagles at next month’s Unity Cup tournament.
Okonkwo recently completed his switch of international allegiance from England to Nigeria after previously representing England at youth levels.
Having played for England’s U16, U17, and U18 teams, the former Arsenal goalkeeper received Fifa approval on Monday to play for Nigeria at the senior level.
An NFF official told ESPN that Okonkwo was very eager to represent Nigeria, which helped speed up the process for the federation.
The official added that Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is keen to include Okonkwo in the squad for the tournament.
Okonkwo’s excellent form this season has strengthened his case for a national team call-up.
The 24-year-old has played 42 matches in all competitions and kept 10 clean sheets in 37 Championship games, ranking him among the top goalkeepers in the league.
The Super Eagles are set to start their Unity Cup campaign against Zimbabwe on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at The Valley, home of Charlton Athletic.
Nigeria, the defending champions, won the last edition by defeating Jamaica on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
