Nigeria’s electricity crisis has sparked fresh criticism from Peter Obi, who has called out President Bola Tinubu over unmet promises. Obi pointed to Tinubu’s 2023 campaign statement where he said Nigerians should not re-elect him if he failed to deliver steady power within four years.
In a post shared on X, Obi argued that instead of improving, the country’s electricity situation has become worse since Tinubu took office. According to him, power generation has dropped below 4,000 megawatts on average, while electricity tariffs have increased, putting more pressure on citizens.
He also raised concerns about Nigeria’s electricity consumption compared to other African countries. Obi noted that Nigeria’s per capita usage is far below the continental average, showing how limited access to power remains across the country.
Obi further referenced a recent visit by Tinubu to Jos, where the president reportedly complained about the lack of electricity at the airport during a short stopover. Obi used this moment to highlight what he described as a disconnect between leaders and the daily struggles of Nigerians.
He concluded by urging citizens to demand better leadership, stressing the need for accountability and leaders who prioritise the welfare of the people rather than making promises they cannot keep.
