US detects drones over military base housing Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth

Unidentified drones were detected over Fort McNair in Washington, where Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reside, The Washington Post reported Thursday.

A senior official said the military is closely monitoring threats amid rising tensions in the Middle East, though the drones’ origin is still unknown.

Fort McNair, near Capitol Hill, hosts the National Defense University and top Pentagon officials but lacks the extensive safety buffer of other bases in the region.

The White House convened a meeting to discuss relocating the officials, but sources confirmed that Rubio and Hegseth have not been moved.

US bases and diplomatic posts worldwide are on high alert, with locations like MacDill Air Force Base and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst raising security to force protection level Charlie.

Pentagon and Air Force officials said security measures, including lockdowns and shelter-in-place orders, are adjusted based on local threat assessments to ensure safety.
