The ongoing leadership crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party has taken another turn as Nyesom Wike warned the rival faction led by Kabiru Taminu Turaki that his camp is prepared for a Supreme Court battle if they proceed with an appeal.
Wike spoke after his faction secured victory in several legal disputes at the Court of Appeal (Nigeria) in Abuja. According to him, the court dismissed appeals filed by the Turaki-led group challenging earlier rulings related to the party’s convention.
The appellate court also upheld the earlier judgment of the Federal High Court (Nigeria), which restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission from recognising the outcome of the PDP’s 2025 national convention.
Reacting to the development, Wike said the ruling should serve as an opportunity for members of the party to reconcile and move forward. However, he warned that further legal action could deepen the crisis within the opposition party.
The minister noted that his faction won nine different appeals filed by the rival group. He added that the court also imposed financial penalties, with each case carrying a cost of ₦2 million against the Turaki faction.
Wike maintained that while he hopes the party will focus on unity, his camp remains ready to defend its position if the case eventually moves to the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
