The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration of planning to obtain a ₦300 billion loan using the state’s 30 local government councils as collateral. The allegation was made in a statement by the party’s chairman, Tajudeen Lawal.
According to the APC, the proposed loan would reportedly come from Unity Bank Plc. Lawal claimed that a meeting was held at the State Secretariat in Abere where local government officials and senior administrators discussed the borrowing arrangement.
The party alleged that each local government council could be tied to about ₦10 billion in the loan deal. APC warned that such a move may place additional financial burdens on the councils and violate legal provisions on local government autonomy.
Lawal also advised financial institutions to be cautious when dealing with the alleged proposal. He insisted that only council executives reinstated by the Court of Appeal are legally recognised to manage local government affairs in the state.
Meanwhile, the Accord Party in Osun has called on APC governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji to explain his alleged role in the management of a $20 million primary health care grant during the administration of former governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
Accord’s state chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, urged Oyebamiji to clarify procurement decisions made while he served as Commissioner for Finance and Chairman of the State Procurement Board, stressing that transparency in the use of public funds is necessary.
