Plateau Tenancy Bill scales second reading

The Plateau State House of Assembly has passed a bill seeking to regulate tenancy agreements for second reading during plenary. The proposed law is designed to promote fairness between landlords and tenants across the state.

The motion was presented by Theodore Maiyaki, who explained that the bill would help address common disputes related to rent and tenancy. He said proper documentation and clear agreements would reduce conflicts between property owners and tenants.

Supporting the bill, Adamu Aliyu described the legislation as an important step toward protecting the rights of both parties. He also emphasized the need to stop unlawful evictions that often create tension in residential communities.

After debate, Naanlong Daniel directed that the bill be read for the second time and sent to the relevant committee for further review and public input before it can become law.
