Senator Seriake Dickson has announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). The Bayelsa West lawmaker made the announcement during a meeting with journalists, supporters, and political associates at his residence in Abuja.
Dickson explained that his decision came after several months of consultations with political allies and stakeholders. According to him, the move was not sudden but the result of deep reflection on the future of his political career and the direction of the country.
The former Bayelsa governor said internal challenges within the PDP also played a major role in his decision to leave the party. He noted that ongoing disagreements and leadership issues in the party made it difficult for him to continue his political journey there.
Dickson stated that the newly formed NDC offers a fresh platform for political ideas and democratic development. He added that the party aims to promote unity, good governance, and stronger democratic values in Nigeria.
He assured his supporters in Bayelsa West and across the country that the move was made in the interest of better representation and national progress. Dickson also called on other politicians who share similar views to join the effort to build a stronger political alternative.
Political observers believe the defection could influence political alignments ahead of future elections. The development has already sparked reactions from members of the PDP and other parties across the country.
