A Chief Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti has remanded two men, Awolusi Babatunde, 45, and Awolusi Oluwaseun, 23, at the Correctional Centre for allegedly assaulting police officers and two residents. The court granted bail to a third defendant, Awolusi Mary, 42, set at N100,000 with two sureties in the same amount. The case was adjourned to February 20, 2026, for further proceedings.
The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the trio allegedly attacked ASP Ogunleye Taiwo, W/Insp. Adejoh Esther, and W/Insp. Omozuafo Juliet while they were on duty on February 11, 2026, at Gloryland Avenue, Ajebamidele, Ado-Ekiti. The defendants are accused of conspiring to unlawfully assault the officers during the performance of their lawful duties.
Oriyomi added that Awolusi Oluwaseun allegedly inflicted grievous harm on one Agunbiade Kehinde by cutting him on the back with a razor blade. The defendants also reportedly assaulted Agunbiade Precious, and their actions are said to violate sections 421, 184, and 187 of the Ekiti State Criminal Law, 2021.
Counsel to the defendants, Barrister Akinwumi Tumise, requested bail, assuring the court that his clients would not flee. Nevertheless, Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun ordered that Babatunde and Oluwaseun remain in custody at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre until the next hearing.
