The Federal Government has approved the dualisation of the 420-kilometre Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe Highway, a move set to improve transportation and boost economic activities in the central and northern regions. The project aims to expand the existing single carriageway into a dual carriageway, enhancing safety, reducing travel time, and accommodating increasing traffic.
The highway links major cities in Nasarawa, Plateau, Bauchi, and Gombe States, and serves as a key corridor for trade, agriculture, and passenger movement. Government officials emphasized that the upgrade will foster regional integration and make the route safer for commuters.
Work on the highway will involve modern engineering standards, including proper drainage systems, wider lanes, and improved signage to reduce accidents. It is also expected to create jobs during construction and stimulate local economies along the corridor.
Federal authorities noted that the dualisation project aligns with broader infrastructure development plans aimed at improving road networks across Nigeria. Completion of the highway is expected to ease logistics, attract investment, and enhance connectivity between central and northern states.
